Dr. Nasim Jamali, currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, was one of the original WiSolve founders in 2015. She had been attending biotech ‘happy hour’ events when members of the local biotech community approached about starting a consulting group. Graduate students and postdocs at other universities, such as the BALSA group at Washington University, were already leading the way in forming similar consulting groups that aimed at providing local businesses consulting services while simultaneously offering hands-on professional training to students.
Initially, the group focused internally to determine WiSolve’s business plan, strategy, and goals for what the organization would be. This was an ever-evolving process, but the team delivered well and eventually WiSolve had its first client! Throughout, the local biotech community was very supportive and invited WiSolve to various events to pitch and get the WiSolve name out there. This community continues to be an integral part of WiSolve’s success.
WiSolve provided Dr. Jamali with important hands-on experience that she believes elevated her above other colleagues applying for the same positions after graduate school. In fact, every interviewer asked about her experience with WiSolve. Her time with WiSolveprovided important problem solving and leadership skills, as well as understanding how to break down complex problems and communicate to those without a formal scientific background.
